"A serious person focused on global issues. They see the world in dramatic, and even tragic colours. They expect all kinds of troubles. They tend to set and solve their personal problems on a global scale. They often seek to benefit all of humanity."

Opening StatementsWritten by ImpossibleHunt

These are the quintessential "aura farmers" of socionics, and seek to develop a well-established circle of connections that all gravitate around the indiviudal EIE. As such, these are people that are exceptionally well at creating social connections, and manipulating people with tactful (and very calculating) displays of emotion to get them to do what they want. As such, these types are often after power, and want to climb social ladders and heirachies to become an indespensible (and often intellectual) icon to everyone.

So in short, these are the "serpents" of socionics lol. But in all seriousness, 99% of people who type as "INTJ Social Manipulators" are just EIE. In summary, I find EIE (ENFJ) a pretty cool type, and these are the people most likely to get famous and well-known. You'll likely see lots of these types in the celebrity sphere, or in higher up positions at corporations (esepcially if is a public role).

Type Breakdown

Fe-Ni Ego Block
(Fe-Ni) - (Se-Ti) - (Fi-Ne) - (Si-Te)

The Ego Block is the aspect of the personality you are the most confident in, and is what you offer to the world. It's the main dish of the course, and it's your signature. As such, the ego block is made up of the Base/Leading the Creative functions. The base function is your entire worldview; everything stems from it. The creative function is the sword to your kit, which you can use in any given situation. It's flexible, and importantly, can be turned on and off (which makes it more subtle in usage than the base function), as it's not "on" 24/7.

For the EIE, the base and creative functions are Fe and Ni.

Fe Base makes the EIE intrinsically aware of how to affect the emotional moods of those around them, and how to express themselves in a manner to influence people the way they see it. The EIE is forward-thinking, and as a result, usually very cunning. If they behave a certain way, it's to ensure a desired emotional result to arrive to a positive conclusion. This is the result of Ni creative. They bide their time, are patient, and know precisely when to act. As a result, despite being Fe base, they might come across a bit more distant in their external emotionality. This is because they enjoy directing their activities towards a future goal and objective. Ni to an EIE is used as a direct support to guide its Fe centred worldview.

So essentially, serpent behaviour. These are types that excel in political environments, where status and social-climbing are of the top priority. These are types that actively seek out social connections, and prioritize building bridges with people that can prove immensely useful to their goals. They know precisely what to say to garner the reaction they want from you.

A good example of an EIE is Hannibal Lecter from Hannibal (2013). In the scene below (and many like it), he is attempting to secure a hospitable relationship with Jack Crawford, one of the heads of the FBI (an organization that is actively hunting him). In these interactions, he cracks jokes, encourages discussion, and knows precisely what to say to get people interested in his presence. But he does this, to ensure that he has in hands into the investigation. In this scene especially, you can tell he is attempting to get blackmail. Jack Crawford's wife, Bella, was recently diagnosed with stomach cancer, and refuses to tell her husband. Lecter subtly brings up the fact that he has detected stomach cancer (with his teacher) in the past, and makes direct eye contact with her. Maybe he could use her as a tool in the future to further manipulate Jack? Or use this knowledge to impact Jack's relationship, and make him easier to manage?

So essentially... Hannibal knows about Bella's stomach cancer. Bella knows that Hannibal knows about her stomach cancer. Hannibal knows that Bella knows that Hannibal knows about her stomach cancer.

Confused yet?

Well, the EIE loves these scenarios, and knows precisely how to use this to their advantage.

Te-Si Superego
(Fe-Ni) - (Se-Ti) - (Fi-Ne) - (Si-Te)

If you are coming in from MBTI, this is where socionics begins to depart from it. The next area of focus is called the superego block, or the area in which uses to support their ego block. The two functions in this sphere are called the Role and the POLR (Point of Least Resistance) functions.

The Role element is the function you use to directly support, and to balance out your ego-block functions. It is not something you enjoy doing or value, but it needs to be done in order to balance yourself out as a person. You'll see this element a lot (which can lead to mistypings), and you can actually become quite proficient with this function with practice. The POLR function is the element you essentially keep locked up in your basement because it directly messes with the ego-block. As such, this is going to often be the function many struggle with using properly, and requires constant (and painful) trial-and-error to improve.

For the EIE, the role and POLR functions are Te and Si

Te Role Makes it so the EIE will appear to be reasonable, and well-knowledgeable in their endeavours. They will often be well-read people, but it is purely to support their Fe-Ni goals and worldviews. This makes it so the EIE might often be mistyped as a Te Base because of this tendency (which is why there is an over-representation of "ENTJ/INTJ" master-manipulator" stereotypes on PDB). These types are both skilled at navigating social atmospheres, often appear cunning; but have quite an intellectual bent to them that will collect facts that support their ambitions.

Dio Brando in Jojo's Bizzare Adventure is an excellent example of this. During his awakening and travel to Egypt, Dio went and gathered as many facts and factual information as he could to better understand the world around him. However, it was all in pursuit to better understand human nature, so he could control, and later guide people into a vision of "heaven." Many of his conversations with Pucci in Stone Ocean reflect a more intellectual curiosity within Dio, and he often supports his observations about people with objective facts and data he has collected. In this clip, he goes into detail on what he perceives the "weakest" stand ability to be, and references a disastrous hiking trip in the Lorraine region of France. Does he care about collecting data just for it's own sake? Hardly. He uses this fact to support his perceptions about people, relationships, and human nature.

Si POLR makes EIEs generally the most detached people from the average "day to day" lifestyle. These are types that vastly prefer to focus on long-term engagements, and as such, it directly comes at the cost of themselves being aware of their physical needs. To them, taking care of themselves is seen as a never-ending exercise, so they tend to ignore it entirely in favour of long-term goals. Of course, this can backfire on these types heavily. The human body has an ability to keep track of it's own internal workings, regardless if the individual is aware of it or not. Eventually, your body is going to shut down, and your performance is going to suffer as a result. So this eventually ends up with the EIE on the ground because they haven't slept in three days, and it's up to people like me to duct-tape them to the wall so they are forced to sleep.

EIEs are not really the types to go out for a nightly walk to "de-stress" before going to bed, mow the lawn, do the dishes, etc. They want to keep focusing on the future, and daily chores get exhausting and distract them from the important things they could be doing.

Ti-Se Super-id
(Fe-Ni) - (Se-Ti) - (Fi-Ne) - (Si-Te)

The Super-id block is made up of the two functions that the individual is weaker at, but consistently values and wants to get better at. This block has two functions, the mobilizing and the suggestive element. The mobilizing function is something that gives the individual energy, and is an avenue they want to keep actively pursuing to become better.

The Suggestive function is known the "inferior" function in MBTI, and is an aspect that the individual sucks at, needs lots of help and guidance with, but they are open to (and love people who can provide) feedback in this area.

For the EIE, their suggestive and mobilizing functions are Ti and Se

Ti suggestive makes the EIE deeply value people who provide a concise framework in which to percieve the world, and to make the EIEs actions "make sense" to them (this is something the EIE can have issues with, as they don't trust their faculties). Without a strong Ti user, an EIE will be prone to arguing themselves in circles because they lack that consistent structure to their argumentation. An LSI (ISTP) can do wonders to help in this area. They want feedback in order to make sure that the concepts and the "building-blocks" behind their judgements are sound. Without it, these types can be insecure.

But with practice and loads of trial and error, the EIE will learn to replicate these structures for themselves and others.

Se mobilizing is what I call, "the sigma male grindset" element. Extroverted sensing is concerned with voltion, power, and the acquisition of resources (time, money, attention, infleunce, etc). Having it in the mobilizing position makes it so the EIE's life mission is to acquire more resources, influence, and power. It is something that mobilizes them to move forward, and seize opportunities. But it can come across as too bold, and honestly to higher-order Se users, a little cringe.

Please have the local LSI stop you from being this cringe, please.

Ne-Fi Id Block
(Fe-Ni) - (Se-Ti) - (Fi-Ne) - (Si-Te)

The Id Block is made up of functions the individual is very good at. but don't really care that much to talk about, or draw attention to. These two functions are called the Demonstrative and the Ignoring elements.

The Demonstrative element is something that is constantly running in the background, and many people might associate you as having. When it flairs up, tt's extremely bold, noticable, and it's actually the most potent function alongside your base/ dominant function. Because of this, it can lead to a load of mistypes if not careful, as you might think someone's demonstrative element is their base. However, the demonstrative element is not that interesting to the individual. They know they are good at it, but they don't see much value in investing too much time into this element.

The Ignoring function is pretty self-explanatory. It's potent, effective, and it can be used when you need to. But you would much rather spend your time and energy engaging with your ego block, so this is only used as "back-up" when the scenario calls for it. This element is effective and you're good at it, but it's not all that interesting to engage with.

For the EIE (ENFJ), the demonstrative and ignoring functions are Ne and Fi

Ne demonstrative makes the EIE extremely good at brainstorming new possibilities, ideas, and alternative routes to engage with an idea. This can make it exceptionally easy for an EIE to actually be mistyped as an Ne base. However, the main difference is that the EIE will largely treat this as a simple novelty, rather than an actual thing to be pursued. If used, it has to be in support of his/her Fe-Si ego block. So their imagination and musings are always going to be tied to their objectives and future desires.

Fi ignoring makes it so the EIE is going to be unsure on deciding how deep an interpersonal bond is with a specific person, and would vastly prefer to rely on external emotionality (emotes) to judge how a person feels about him/her. With that being said, the EIE is going to be capable of understanding people when they discuss their own personal sentiments and feelings about objects, but they will find these discussions to be far less interesting than just focusing on the external emotional state of that person.

So you'll typically see an EIE begin to roll their eyes if a discussion purely focused on examining sentiments drags out for too long. In the clip below, you can see Hannibal doing everything to sink back into his chair and swallow his distaste when one of his clients tries to find out his own sentiments, and gets Hannibal to care about his. This conversation is so uninteresting to Hannibal that you can see him uncharacteristically reflect that disinterest in his face.

How to spot an EIE (ENFJ) in real life:

  • Someone who essentially has 24/7 aura. This is an individual who knows exactly what to say conduct themselves in a manner that gets everyone to like him/her, in the hopes of securing potential connections to fufill their desires and goals. However, they will never play their cards on their sleeve. You'll likely get a sense that they are hiding something, or that they are "playing" their hand in such a way that optimizes a good outcome. Meaning, they are not going to express themselves in a way that leaves them open for potential ridicule.
  • Will come across as fact-oriented and knowledgable, but their facts will always to bolster their Fe-Ni ego. They want to be percieved as someone who is worth knowing, and becoming a leader that is knowledgable in a multitiude of fields, so knowing facts and information is how to secure that perception. It is important to note that gathering facts for an EIE, is to help them become percieved as an intellectual leader worth allying with.
  • Intensely future focused, and will often sacrifice their daily comfort for this fact.
  • Desperately wants to feel intelligent, but is insecure about whether their ideas are consistent. Needs help from others (particularly LSIs) to begin to operate in an intellectually consistent manner.
  • Has a life mission to acquire more resources, become more physically capable, etc. Will likely have a sort of dorky "sigma male grindset" that inspires them to move. Likely also needs help to not become cringe in this area.
  • Can come up with many different possibilities and potential alternatives to achieve their goals, but their musings are not going to be treated as serious considerations.
  • Can understand personal sentiments, but does not find them nearly as interesting as reading and affecting external emotions.
