"The SLE considers everything that is necessary to achieve the “end result” be their life’s work. A strong-willed, goal-oriented person. Undoubtedly undemonstrative, they do not care about the impression they leave on others."

Opening Statements: Written by ImpossibleHunt
Ah yes, the number #1 type in all of socionics that will pick a fight with you for looking at them the wrong way, or what I like to call "the 40-year-old divorced Dad" demographic of socionics... In all seriousness, the SLE (ESTP) is an interesting type in a variety of ways. They are very good people to have on your side, and are the best at what they do (curbstomping people, or robbing them). Okay, jokes aside, this is a very conflict oriented type, are very aware of power-dyanamics, and do not react well to having force applied against them.
So yeah, during the Covid-19 pandemic, I would probably say that 90% of the people who I had to throw out of the store, or threatened to "gun me down" were porbably SLEs who felt I was intruding upon their volition, and freedom. I bet most people who type as SLE will say "that is based" to that information lol. One last thing I would like to highlight is that these types are very business-savvy, and can take on the role of CEO, politician, or used-car salesman and do exceedingly well. Life is about survival to these types, and everything is permitted.
Type Breakdown
Se-Ti Ego Block
(Se-Ti) - (Fe-Ni) - (Si-Te) - (Fi-Ne)
The Ego Block is the aspect of the personality you are the most confident in, and is what you offer to the world. It's the main dish of the course, and it's your signature. As such, the ego block is made up of the Base/Leading the Creative functions. The base function is your entire worldview; everything stems from it. The creative function is the sword to your kit, which you can use in any given situation. It's flexible, and importantly, can be turned on and off (which makes it more subtle in usage than the base function), as it's not "on" 24/7.
For the SLE (ESTP), the base and creative functions are Se and Ti.
Extroverted sensing is all about stripping an object of all of it's meaning, and dealing with strictly the physical thing in front of you. Posession of "things," power, resources, attention, asserting your will onto others; that is all in the realm of Se. As such, with Se base being their dominant function, the SLE is an individual keenly aware of power dynamics, volitional pressure, and the acquisition of resources. A term you will hear heavily from SLEs is "respect." Usually this takes the form of a respect to their autonomy, authority, and their independence. Anything that is perceived to be a threat to their survival, or something that is perceived to challenge their authority; they pride themselves on the ability of heading face-first into that conflict head-on. They treat the world as if it is constantly trying to undermine them, and they enjoy being able to test their will to demonstrate their strength. Usually through constant conflict.
To support this worldview, the SLE will employ creative Ti in order to create logical structures to justify it. These types might say that the entire world is founded upon these power dynamics, and that they are just obeying the "natural order" or something to that effect. But since it's the creative function, these Ti structures are flexible, and can be naturally added upon when it comes across new information to support Se base.
A great example of this dynamic is through a monologue delivered by Rebecca "Revy" Lee in Black Lagoon. She explains that objects are not given value by subjective memories or imprints associated with them. No, they are determined specifically by their value in wealth and power. This is what she lives by. It is money and power that got her out of those harsh circumstances, and that is what she is going to constantly strive to seek and attain. To her, her firearms are worth more to her, because of their ability to assert herself on the world stage, and to take what she wants.
Ne-Fi Superego
(Se-Ti) - (Fe-Ni) - (Si-Te) - (Fi-Ne)
If you are coming in from MBTI, this is where socionics begins to depart from it. The next area of focus is called the superego block, or the area in which uses to support their ego block. The two functions in this sphere are called the Role and the POLR (Point of Least Resistance) functions.
Ne Role makes it so that SLEs don't rely heavily on assessing the potential of others, and are skeptical of what intentions people can have. However, when it is in the interest of their Se-Ti, the SLE will often give others chances by asking for specific demands, and then assessing how well those people accomplish those tasks. They will use Ne to give people a chance, but then they will quickly revert to Se-Ti to observe their acquisition of resources. If the person directly assists with that, then the SLE will be more than happy to keep them around because they are proven to be useful to them. If not, they have no issue telling the person to get lost. They can use Ne role in short bursts, only to fufill the role of "support" to their Se-Ti ego goals and objectives.
What SLEs are going to have a very difficult time with is in the realm of personal relationships, or Fi POLR. SLEs are terrible at assessing the distance between individuals, and don't value operating on subjective likes/dislikes. They treat everyone equally, which in the SLEs case, they will be equally confrontational to everyone if they feel they have been disrespected. Ne role also makes them suspicious of the intent of others, so they might often accuse people of their intentions, even if they have "proven" their loyalty to them. Since they don't value personal sentiments, they will not care how they come across to others, including loved ones and/or friends.
Of course, over time they can slowly (but grudingly) learn to respect the personal sentiments of others, and to foster special bonds with people/ preferential treatment. But this does not come easy, and it involves the SLE to go completely against their Se-Ti. To an SLE (ESTP), it simply makes no sense to engage with Fi.
A good example is the case of Richie Aprile in The Sopranos. This is a man who does not tolerate any form of perceived disrespect, and it does not matter from whom. In his first introduction, he pays a visit to one of his friends, Beansie, who did not visit him in prison (whom he interpreted as a form of disrespect). Despite the long-standing relationship between the two, Aprile is not able to assess that Beansie probably does not appreciate being subjected to near constant pressure by him. This makes Aprile not a very fun guy to be around, hence him not visiting. But despite these factors, Aprile dismisses them and proceeds to "shake down" Beansie. When Beansie steps out, Aprile automatically responds by throwing a coffee pot in his face (and well, later crippling both his legs). This behaviour would later be his downfall when he treats his fiance (Janice Soprano) a similar way because he does not value interpersonal sentiments, and she...well, does not take it lying down.
"C'mon I'm in no mood to be-"
*Gets shot*
This is why SLEs have the reputation of being grizzled survivors, or the types to die in really stupid ways when they piss off the wrong people, because of the need to "flex" themselves to assert dominance. Most of their trouble stems from their inability to percieve the intentions of others; this and being mixed with their confrontational nature, can make it pretty difficult to not end up offending the SLE and coming to blows.
Ni-Fe Super-id
(Se-Ti) - (Fe-Ni) - (Si-Te) - (Fi-Ni)
The Super-id block is made up of the two functions that the indivdiual is weaker at, but consistently values and wants to get better at. These are functions they value in others, and seek out.
This block has two functions, the mobilizing and the suggestive element. The mobilizing function is something that gives the individual energy, and is an avenue they want to keep actively pursuing to become better. The Suggestive function is known the "inferior" function in MBTI, and is an aspect that the individual sucks at, needs lots of help and guidance with, but they are open to (and love people who can provide) feedback in this area. Hence the name "suggestive," I suggest you do this, sort of thing (hopefully I don't sound like an idiot).
For the SLE, the suggestive and mobilizing functions are Ni and Fe.
What Ni suggestive does, is that it simply makes the SLE very attracted to people who have a calm, and confident approach to time. People who can see how future scenarios may play out, know precisely when to commit to action, and when to refrain. SLEs have a very troubled relationship with time, and are typically incredibly impulsive. So a person that knows when the precise time is to act, can very much help the SLE fufill their maximum potential.
Secondly, you have the Fe mobilizing function. This is something the SLE will want to move towards creating and being effective (and can use it to some extent), but it's confusing and cloudy. So they will often need help in this area as well. The SLEs relationship with Fe is simply because they find it easier to manage than the alternative, which is deep-diving into personal sentiments (Fi). But while it's the better solution out of the two choices, they are still not super comfortable. A person who can keep a positive atmosphere that is light-hearted, so the SLE will not have to deal with personal sentiments (such as an IEI) are greatly valued.
A good example of an individual who tries painfully hard to create a positive emotional atmosphere (and is often not successful) is John Marston from Red Dead Redemption, particularly when he is trying to spend time with his son Jack Marston. You can see that Marston clearly values Fe, and when the topic takes a dark or dramatic turn, he wants to turn the subject into something more positive and hopeful. It typically can come across as too forced, or overly synthetic. This is because to John, this is a lot easier than trying to delve deep into his personal sentiments (Fi POLR). Instead of doing that, he tries to ascribe to the social idea of what a father should act like. It's sort of endearing, as you can tell John is clearly trying. He wants to have a happy, positive relationship with his son, but is unsure of how to create that dynamic himself.
This is a trait shared with Tony Soprano. He definately does not want to talk about personal sentiments, but on the flip side, he is still unsure of how to create a fosturing positive atmosphere for his son (Fe mobilizing), despite him desperately wanting that dynamic in his household. He does not want to discuss negative topics, so instead tries to bond by trying to establish a positive enviornment, usually fun-filled, etc.
Te-Si Id Block
(Se-Ti) - (Fe-Ni) - (Si-Te) - (Fi-Ne)
The Demonstrative element is something that is constantly running in the background, and many people might associate you as having. When it flairs up, tt's extremely bold, noticable, and it's actually the most potent function alongside your base/ dominant function. Because of this, it can lead to a load of mistypes if not careful, as you might think someone's demonstrative element is their base. However, the demonstrative element is not that interesting to the individual. They know they are good at it, but they don't see much value in investing too much time into this element.
The Ignoring function is pretty self-explanatory. It's potent, effective, and it can be used when you need to. But you would much rather spend your time and energy engaging with your ego block, so this is only used as "back-up" when the scenario calls for it.
Many people tend to mistype SLE (ESTP) as a Te base type, mainly because when they need to, SLEs can regularly provide factual information to support their desire for power and resources. The demonstrative function is the most potent, and easily seen to the outside world. But the attitude towards Te is going to be indifferent. Why focus on facts and data if it does not serve the needs of your Se-Ti?
Additionally, similar to ILE, they would much rather focus on whether an idea is logically consistent and makes sense to them personally, rather than fact-checking it against objective sources. It just seems like a pointless exercise to dedicate your life's mission towards.
-----------------------------
- These are going to be the most conflict-oriented people, and will not tolerate any percieved disrespect, no matter who it is coming from (this can even be directed towards relatives, family, and friends). They do not discriminate. So depending on your perspective, these are going to be some of the most fair types, but equally so, some of the most authoritarian. If you are not skilled at calming people down and being tactful, you'll need to walk on eggshells around these types.
- Usually sees the entire world as a series of power dynamics, or a structural "food chain" to be climbed. Anything is permitted in such a system.
- Not typically inclined to give people the benefit of the doubt (on their potential), until they see them in action first. How useful the other person is to reaching the SLE's goals, determines the value of that person.
- Deeply dislikes talking about personal sentiments and feelings. Finds it instead easier to "lighten the mood," but such attempts can come across as forced and awkward.
- Values people who can predict eventual outcomes, so the SLE can be informed of when it is appropriate to engage, or retreat. A person (such as an IEI) who is skilled in this area, can be of great service to them, and can do much to diminish their anxieties.
- Can be very fact-oriented when they need to be, but it's clear they prefer to see if new information makes sense to them, rather than just simply fact-checking.
