Opening Statements: Written by ImpossibleHunt
I would say that out of all the types online, the ILE is one of the best represented and least misunderstood. Not because I am salty and this is my "conflict" relation lol. But mainly because the ENTp stereotypes online are these people are "fun-loving," try not to take anything too seriously, can be sort of cringe in trying to provoke reactions out of people, etc. Which... is not too far off the mark IMO. People tend to have a good general idea of what an ILE is, without even delving into socionics. Which makes this a lot easier.
However, there are a few complexities about ENTPs that lots of people do not notice. These types can actually be quite conflict-avoidant, and despite their reputation as "trolls" they deeply dislike sustained and prolonged anger. They might start a fight by pissing someone off online, and they might keep up the act for a little while, but they will always try to find an "easy way out."
These types also want to contribute positively to society, and positive emotional reactions from others relfect broader society's attitudes towards them. So these types, despite their trollish behaviour, try to get as many positive reactions from people as possible. This is where these types can have a chameleon-esque trait to them, where they will shift to whatever ethics another person uses in order to adapt to their behaviours and needs. These types can also be exceptionally hard workers, but it must be on their own terms, and it must be a field in which they are invested and interested in (and hopefully will generate as much positive emotional feedback towards them as possible).
Type Breakdown
Ne-Ti Ego Block
(Ne-Ti) - (Fe-Si) - (Ni-Te) - (Fi-Se)
The Ego Block is the aspect of the personality you are the most confident in, and is what you offer to the world. It's the main dish of the course, and it's your signature. As such, the ego block is made up of the Base/Leading the Creative functions. The base function is your entire worldview; everything stems from it. The creative function is the sword to your kit, which you can use in any given situation. It's flexible, and importantly, can be turned on and off (which makes it more subtle in usage than the base function), as it's not "on" 24/7.
For the ILE (ENTP) the Base and Creative Functions are Ne and Ti.
The ILE is someone is foremost concerned with the potential behind any single object, phenomenon and structure. Instead of focusing on what the "thing" in front of them actually is, the ILE is concerned with what it could be. This extends to people and ideas, and they reject anything superficial and "shallow." They assess people by the potential they see in them, and strongly dislike writing people off at a first glance (something they conflict with ESIs/ ISFPs on). Their capacity also makes them some of the first people to recognize the potential value of new scientific theories and trends.
Having Ne-Ti in the ego position automatically leads to a devaluing of Se, aka: visual information. Think of the difference between the words "figurative" and "literal." An ILE is a figurative thinker, and focuses strictly on every perceived meaning of an object, outside the literal object itself. As Aushra gives as an example, if the ILE observes that the sky is blue, the ILE actually does not perceive that the sky is actually blue without effort; instead, they look at all the figurative meanings behind their observations. To describe their figurative observations, the ILE will attempt to construct their observations through logical argumentation.
So what does this all mean?
Well, an ILE is going to be someone consistently trying to explore every perceivable angle to an idea, person, structure, etc. They are built to assess potential, and to craft arguments and logical structures to bring those ideas to everyone, to allow them to paint their otherwise abstract idealizations on a canvas for everyone to see. They are proud of this aspect, and dislike anyone who is simple-minded, or writes off avenues of thought without considering in deeper detail first.
------------------------
To bring a visual example, the scene below comes from The Wire (2002-2008) and focuses on Jimmy McNulty, a police detective working the streets of Baltimore. Here, McNulty disputes the suicide consensus that was accepted by the investigation, and confronts the victim's mother about forcing her child into a life of crime, advocating that her son had a lot of potential that will now be forgotten forever. This demonstrates McNulty's capacity for outside the box thinking, and assessing all potential avenues in structures and people.
To demonstrate Se Role, look at Cartman in this scene from South Park. The kid is constantly provoking others and using pressure to get people to do what he wants. However, when the conflict grows from (somewhat) playful banter to a serious occasion, Cartman will get a lot more anxious. It's clear that while Cartman uses Se to support what he wants to do, he quickly abandons it when it becomes too much, proving that he actually does not value it, when the going gets tough. Whereas an SLE and SEE (ESTP and ESFP), actual Se ego types, would be more than willing to back up their actions. Cartman here, despite starting the fight, would much rather do anything else (including eating his own underwear) than engage with firm conflict.
Fi POLR makes it so that the ILE does not take any stock in subjective notions of "right" or "wrong." Instead, they look to (and need) ethical systems and structures to guide their morality, and to tell them what to do in any given situation: aka, how to behave. They will then shift how they behave according to the individual they associate with, being able to do this with relative ease as long as the person they are talking to, has a rigid set of ethics they are working with. In short, this type is a chameleon.
ILEs do this because they value creating as many social connections as possible, as they believe that the more people like them, the greater value society places upon them. As such, these types don't write anyone off according to subjective morality, and dislike those who do. So they have no use for Fi, the function that determines subjective feelings/ "likes and dislikes."

Se-Fi Superego
(Ne-Ti) - (Fe-Si) - (Ni-Te) - (Fi-Se)
If you are coming in from MBTI, this is where socionics begins to depart from it. The next area of focus is called the superego block, or the area in which uses to support their ego block. The two functions in this sphere are called the Role and the POLR (Point of Least Resistance) functions.

The Role element is the function you use to directly support, and to balance out your ego-block functions. It is not something you enjoy doing or value, but it needs to be done in order to balance yourself out as a person. You'll see this element a lot (which can lead to mistypings), and you can actually become quite profecient with this function with practice. The POLR function is the element you essentially keep locked up in your basement because it directly messes with the ego-block. As such, this is going to often be the function many struggle with using properly, and requires constant (and painful) trial-and-error to improve.
For the ILE the Role and POLR functions are Se and Fi.
That means, the ILE is going to end up using extroverted sensing quite a bit to use volitional pressure to get what they want, but they don't like doing so. They can only exert pressure for so long before they seek to find a less stressful/ exhausting way to achieve their ends. Meaning, while ILEs might seem conflict-oriented at first glance (the debate stereotype), they are often conflict-avoidant. Meaning, if a conflict becomes serious enough, the ILE will try to wiggle themselves out of it in order to keep things light. With these types, and extra firm grip is necessary to keep them in place.
To demonstrate Se Role, look at Cartman in this scene from South Park. The kid is constantly provoking others and using pressure to get people to do what he wants. As such, these types don't write anyone off according to subjective morality, and dislike those who do. So they have no use for Fi, the function that determines subjective feelings/ "likes and dislikes."
Of course, this can lead to a few issues, specifically when the ILE is interacting with Fi-valuing types. You might find that an ILE will behave completely differently when around a specific group or person, and behave differently with the next. This can give the perception that ILEs are often slippery people, and it can be exceedingly difficult to tell where you stand with any particular ILE, because they value being accommodating and shifting to meet the expectations of every person they come across. They don't dismiss people. It is only through long-term trial and error, that the ILE will slowly discover, and act upon, their subjective likes and dislikes when it comes to people, places, and things.
A good example of this is with Saul Goodman, who will often read the room, and shift his behaviour and mannerisms to suit the people he's around. It is clear that he does not act in accordance to how he likes and dislikes people. He is there to get people to like him, and to associate with him; to expand his connections and to intrigue. He's not there to write off people based on what he deems as right and wrong.
---------------------------------
In the below scene for example, Jimmy actively attempts to win over the panel by reading the room to learn what "ballpark" he is playing in. Once he guages the ethical standpoint most of the panel is adhereing to (family is to be valued, loyalty is important, etc); Goodman then operates on the same playing field. He uses his relationship with his brother (however negative it truly was) to win the panel over, and to do "good" by his brother's name. Of course, Jimmy is lying here. After this scene, Jimmy admits that his entire emotional showhere was a ploy to get his license back, and he just tailoured his behaviour to match the ethics of the panel to make his plan work (which disturbs Kim, the woman in the crowd who originally believed Jimmy to be genuine).
But this demonstrates the adaptibility of the ILE when it comes to shifting in accordance to who they meet.

Si-Fe Super-id
(Ne-Ti) - (Fe-Si) - (Ni-Te) - (Fi-Se)
The Super-id block is made up of the two functions that the indivdiual is weaker at, but consistently values and wants to get better at. This block has two functions, the mobilizing and the suggestive element. The mobilizing function is something that gives the individual energy, and is an avenue they want to keep actively pursuing to become better. The Suggestive function is known the "inferior" function in MBTI, and is an aspect that the individual sucks at, needs lots of help and guidance with, but they are open to (and love people who can provide) feedback in this area. Hence the name "suggestive," I suggest you do this, sort of thing (hopefully I don't sound like an idiot).

For the ILE, the mobilizing function is Fe. This means that the ILE takes great notice of how much the world around them notices their feelings through positive feedback. In short, they are energized when people are happy with them, and like them. As a result, this type can appear to be pretty bold in trying to create a positive emotional atmosphere, in order for people to like them. If the people around them are happy, then the ILE will feel positively about themselves. According to Aushra, to an ILE, they only feel "hurt" and "not hurt" and need the emotional feedback of others in order to determine how they feel. As such, you might often see the ILE play the role of the "jokester" to improve the "mood" of the room, in a way that can quickly become somewhat cringe-worthy because of the boldness of the suggestive function (being 2D). They can crack jokes in an attempt to lighten the mood, when the situation should remain serious. They do it because they need to mood to be "not hurt" in order for them to feel "not hurt," if that makes sense.
The suggestive function for the ILE is Si. Personal comforts, and their perception of aesthetic-feelings can be very difficult for them. So they need the help of others in this area, so with trail/error and practice, they can learn to replicate it. This is why the ILE dualizes with the SEI (ISFJ), because of the latter's skill in creating a comfortable aesthetic enviornment, in which the ILE learns for themselves what makes them comfortable, and strives to create that same feeling for themselves and others.
AKA; they need a mother/father figure to take care of them and order chicken nuggies while the ILE is swaddled.
A good example of Si suggestive, and its dynamic with others is the relationship between Megamind and his friend, Minion (an obvious SEI). The two compliment each other very well, with Minion providing a clean, inviting, and comfortable enviornment for Megamind while he is busy with whatever idea he has at the moment. Here, Minion is the grounding force that creates the accepting, aesthetic and inviting enviornment that Megamind seeks. In this clip they have an argument, sure, but you can tell how much both parties mean to one another.

The Id Block is made up of functions the individual is very good at. but don't really care that much to talk about, or draw attention to. These two functions are called the Demonstrative and the Ignoring elements.
The Demonstrative element is something that is constantly running in the background, and many people might associate you as having. When it flairs up, tt's extremely bold, noticable, and it's actually the most potent function alongside your base/ dominant function. Because of this, it can lead to a load of mistypes if not careful, as you might think someone's demonstrative element is their base. However, the demonstrative element is not that interesting to the individual. They know they are good at it, but they don't see much value in investing too much time into this element.
The Ignoring function is pretty self-explanatory. It's potent, effective, and it can be used when you need to. But you would much rather spend your time and energy engaging with your ego block, so this is only used as "back-up" when the scenario calls for it.

For the ILE, the demonstrative (Te) and ignoring function (Ni) essentially explains the ILE's relationship with time, and the management of time. They are proficient in this area, but it's mainly focused on the time of others. They only have an "instinct"of time, so they observes others. As a result, they are sensitive to other people's time, not their own. So when time is running out, the ILE is often the one coming in the "clutch." When they feel the time of other's is of the essence, this seemingly lazy type can outwork virtually anyone given the right circumstances (and interest).
As a result, you might see an ILE being incredibly effecient, and a workaholic (which can lead them to being mistyped as an LIE/ ENTJ). But usually this is because they don't like to burden others with using their time, so they will take on the tasks themselves (even more so when they are guaranteed a positive emotional reaction for their efforts, going back to Fe mobilizing). Otherwise, they are far more comfortable moving at their own pace, and strongly dislike being pressured to accomplish tasks and strict deadlines, which can lead them to becoming excessively stubborn and rebellious. In summary, for the love of all that is holy, never force an ILE to finish a task with pressure. They won't listen. Instead, tell them that it will make you very happy if this was done, or I don't have time to get this done, even though I really want to. This will activate the ILE to become extremely productive and time effecient, in an effort to gain a positive emotional reward. They want you to smile for them; they don't work for effeciency's sake.

~ How to spot ILEs in your daily life~
The smoothest and most challenging relationships for ILEs
- Someone who considers every possible angle when it comes to people, ideas, structures. They then explain these structures through logical arguments, building them up to better explain their perceptions to others.
- Does not like superficial people, or people who have nothing to offer outside appearances.
- Does not write people off on a whim.
- Might be seen as someone who can deal with (and values) conflict, but will ultimately back off to find easier alternatives. They find long-term conflict/volition exhausting and can only handle it in short bursts.
- Loves to keep things emotionally light, seems energized when he/she makes people laugh.
- Needs someone to take care of their needs, and appreciates those who keep them comfortable.
- Cannot be bossed into doing work, and is only motivated to push-hard when the people around him/her are lacking in time, or if he/she is guaranteed a great positive reaction for their efforts.
- Smoothest: Alpha Quadra / SEI (ISFJ), ESE (ESFJ), ILE (ENTP), LII (INTP)
