Opening StatementsWritten by ImpossibleHunt

Honestly one of my favourite types in socionics. as these guys are some of the most hard-working and down-to earth people, that just want to make their day-to-day lives more efficient and comfortable for those they love. But do not be fooled by these types, much like the ESE, these people are more than capable in ripping you in half (Se demonstrative). But they would much rather things just operate smoothly. in all honesty, these types can be exceedingly kind, and mild-mannered If everything is going smoothly, anyways.

In contrast to many stereotypes that classify the LSE as this over-aggressive micromanager (which might be accurate for SX1 LSE lol), many LSEs want their loved ones to be comfortable, and actually greatly value people who are open about their feelings, and demonstrate intimacy with them. They don't seek out conflict, but only employ it as a correctional measure.

Type Breakdown

Te-Si Ego Block
(Te-Si) - (Ne-Fi) - (Ti-Se) - (Ni-Fe)

The Ego Block is the aspect of the personality you are the most confident in, and is what you offer to the world. It's the main dish of the course, and it's your signature. As such, the ego block is made up of the Base/Leading the Creative functions. The base function is your entire worldview; everything stems from it. The creative function is the sword to your kit, which you can use in any given situation. It's flexible, and importantly, can be turned on and off (which makes it more subtle in usage than the base function), as it's not "on" 24/7.

For the LSE, the base and creative functions are Te and Si.

These are some of the truest professionals (and some of the best types, IMO) in socionics, and are purely focused on their work. Because of leading with Te, the LSE is going to be extremely confident on being well-informed to take on matters related to his/her profession. These types get their sense of self-worth from being involved in activities that are seen as useful and productive. But these types are not the sort to endlessly chase after their own ambitions, and they work to make sure their loved ones are well-taken care of, and to secure a sense of security in their profession.

To support this endeavour, the type employs the use of creative Si in order to create and foster environments where their loved ones feel appreciated. In contrast to many stereotypes that insist that LSEs are unaware of their partners inclinations, preferences and tastes, the LSE is actually very much-so. These types will often take their loved ones on activities they know they will like, give them gifts, and overall maximize their enjoyment.

In the scene below, Howard Hamlin (the best character in Better Call Saul, fight me) is summoned by his mentor Chuck McGill, to listen to a supposed incriminating tape from his brother Jimmy McGill (Saul Goodman). While Chuck is satisfied with the tape, Howard immediately calls into question its practicality in the court of law, it's legality, etc. He warns Chuck to be rational about his next steps, and that the tape is effectively useless, and that using it would damage his credibility in the eyes of the firm he is supposed to represent. Here, Howard is the only one being pragmatic.

Or in this scene from Resident Evil Village, Chris Redfield learns that a bioweapon has infiltrated the Winter's household. Pragmatically speaking, it made sense to keep Ethan Winters in the dark, in the case that the information could have been leaked and afforded the BOW time to escape. So he and his team blow through the doors, take out Ethan's "wife" (who was a bioweapon inpersonating his wife Mia), and arrests Ethan. Later in the story, you hear that Redfield was conflicted about keeping Ethan in the dark, and felt guilty about the operation. But he exectues his mission despite these personal sentiments. You can see in this clip that Chris is a pragamtist first, and focuses on fufilling his job to the best of his ability.

Fe-Ni Superego
(Te-Si) - (Ne-Fi) - (Ti-Se) - (Ni-Fe)

If you are coming in from MBTI, this is where socionics begins to depart from it. The next area of focus is called the superego block, or the area in which uses to support their ego block. The two functions in this sphere are called the Role and the POLR (Point of Least Resistance) functions.

The Role element is the function you use to directly support, and to balance out your ego-block functions. It is not something you enjoy doing or value, but it needs to be done in order to balance yourself out as a person. You'll see this element a lot (which can lead to mistypings), and you can actually become quite proficient with this function with practice. The POLR function is the element you essentially keep locked up in your basement because it directly messes with the ego-block. As such, this is going to often be the function many struggle with using properly, and requires constant (and painful) trial-and-error to improve.

For the LSE (ESTJ), the role and POLR functions are Fe and Ni.

Fe role, for the LSE, is essentially a positive "mask" they wear in order to participate in the social sphere, or to better advocate for their practical endeavours. These types recognize that battering people over the head with empiricism, efficiency, and pragmatism isn't going to win any people over. So in the social sphere, these types can come across as incredibly positive, and upbeat. However, it can come across as superficial and shallow, and the LSE won't be able to keep up the behaviour for very long before it starts to slip. If in the conversation, someone is factually wrong about something, the LSE can't help but correct the individual. So Fe is only useful for the LSE if it falls in line with their ego block.

A small example of how Fe role can work, is shown here with Bruno Buccarati's introduction from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. Here, he is tasked with finding out who attacked a Mafioso member. When he confronts the main protagonist, Giorno Giovanna, on the train, he most certainly is immediately commencing with an interrogation. But at the start, his tactic is to come across as jovial. He laughs gleefully, and tries to lighten the mood. But when he gets down to business, the demeanour suddenly drops, and he proceeds with interrogating Giorno for the facts. It was clear that this "opener" was to support his Te, in order to get Giorno to drop his guard before he interrogates him. He also comes across as really superficial, and that he was clearly up to something.

Ni POLR makes it exceedingly difficult for the LSE to plan out things long-term, and they prefer to engage with the scenario at the moment. Time is treated as if it is all near the present, and can be done in today or close to today. This usually manifests as an LSE (ESTJ) usually plans his everyday tasks in a routine that accomplishes everything that needs to get done. It's focused on a day-to-day basis, with often very little need to plan far ahead. Unlike the LIE who tries to accomplish and work their way towards future goals and aspirations, the LSE wants to make sure that every day is accomplished smoothly.

Fi-Ne Super-Id Block
(Te-Si) - (Ne-Fi) - (Ti-Se) - (Ni-Fe)

The Super-id block is made up of the two functions that the individual is weaker at, but consistently values and wants to get better at. This block has two functions, the mobilizing and the suggestive element. The mobilizing function is something that gives the individual energy, and is an avenue they want to keep actively pursuing to become better.

The Suggestive function is known the "inferior" function in MBTI, and is an aspect that the individual sucks at, needs lots of help and guidance with, but they are open to (and love people who can provide) feedback in this area.

For the LSE, the suggestive and mobilizing functions are Fi and Ne.

Suggestive Fi makes it so that LSEs often tailor their focus on whether someone makes sense or not, or whether what they are doing is practical. They are terrible at assessing people's intentions, and have a hard time assessing how people feel about them in return, without clear emotional expressions. But this is someone who really sentimental, and values feedback on whether they are doing "the right thing." This is one of the reasons why they dualize with EIIs (INFPs), who can offer them such feedback, and who make their own personal sentiments clear and out in the open.

A fantastic example of this comes from Jean Kirstein, who takes his talk with Marco to heart during the Battle for Trost. Marco claims that Jean is a good leader, because he is "one of them," and knows what it is like to be weak. It's an assessment of Jean's character, and this feedback is one of the main reasons he signs up for the Survey Corps. It is clear that Jean was incredibly receptive to this feedback, and he later strives to become the very same leader Marco thought he was. Marco remains one of the most important figures in Jean's life, even being mentioned 4 years after his death is enough to bring Jean to anger.

Ne mobilizing makes LSEs very appreciative of people who can offer them alternative interpretations, or possibilities to the events they are going through. In a way, the LSE feels that they come away from these discussions more knowledgable than previously.

Ti-Se Id Block
(Te-Si) - (Ne-Fi) - (Ti-Se) - (Ni-Fe)

The Id Block is made up of functions the individual is very good at. but don't really care that much to talk about, or draw attention to. These two functions are called the Demonstrative and the Ignoring elements.

The Demonstrative element is something that is constantly running in the background, and many people might associate you as having. When it flairs up, tt's extremely bold, noticable, and it's actually the most potent function alongside your base/ dominant function. Because of this, it can lead to a load of mistypes if not careful, as you might think someone's demonstrative element is their base. However, the demonstrative element is not that interesting to the individual. They know they are good at it, but they don't see much value in investing too much time into this element.

The Ignoring function is pretty self-explanatory. It's potent, effective, and it can be used when you need to. But you would much rather spend your time and energy engaging with your ego block, so this is only used as "back-up" when the scenario calls for it. This element is effective and you're good at it, but it's not all that interesting to engage with.

For the LSE (ESTJ), the demonstrative and ignoring functions are Se and Ti.

Se demonstrative unironically makes LSEs some of the most intimidating people in socionics, and it's an aspect of themselves they don't draw much attention to. They much rather have everything work smoothly, and peacefully. But it's a side of themselves that comes out when they need to assert themselves, force others to obey their procedures, or defend those they value from attack. If one of these instances occurs, the LSE will have no problem getting physical in order to have their needs met. In fact, some of the most intimidating people in fiction are pissed off LSEs who are defending their family, or asserting their will. For example, Rick Grimes is an infamous case. There are many scenes in The Walking Dead where Rick would get undeniably violent in order to protect people, if no other methods works beforehand. But when Rick is at his happiest, it is when he is living in peace with his friends and family. Violence and intimidation are only to be used to bring him and his loved ones, back to that status quo.

Ti ignoring makes it so that LSEs are capable in making sure their conclusions are logically consistent, and they undertstand philosophical concepts rather easily. However, they find discussions that are entirely centered around systems, structures, and methods of thinking to be pointless, and uninteresting. Why do that when you can just be focused on what works? Why waste time on this?

How to Spot LSEs in Real Life

  • LSEs are the workhorses of socionics. They make sure that every day-to-day task is accomplished, and is in working order. They are knowledgable, pragmatic, and want everyone to be working to make sure things are properly executed, and done efficently.
  • In contrast to stereotypes, many LSEs will be seen as friendly people, who put on a happy face in front of people. This is because to the LSE, external emotionality is far easier to them than bringing out their personal sentiments into the open. However, you'll notice that this individual will not be able to hold the facade for long. Even when they are acting happy and jovial, try throwing out an incorrect piece of information. The LSE will go out of their way to correct you, usually politely, but letting incorrect information fly past them feels disturbing, and they'll avoid letting that happen whenever possible.
  • These types are wholely unconcerned with the future, and are focused on keeping their day-to-day affairs in order.
  • Greatly value people who can give them moral feedback, or who can assess the LSEs own sentiments without them having to put it out explicitly in the open. They also value those who can explore ideas and possibilities, as they feel it grants them a larger degree of understanding on topics.
  • Can be extremely intimidating when they need to. This is not an aspect they value in themselves, and are happiest when everyone around them is comfortable, and enjoying themselves. But if they situation calls for, an LSE will be easily able to physically confront you.
  • Don't enjoy philosophical discussions, or talks focused on understanding logical structures, as they find these pointless (although they themselves, can understand these concepts just fine).
