In my professional opinion, I call these types the biggest dorks in Socionics. Not really because they like to gain factual information to min-max their future trajectories, but because they desperately want to become the "alpha," (whatever the fuck that means) but it comes across as really forced. Like Patrick Bateman level of forced. I find it hilarious, and it's an aspect of ENTJs (LIE) that is often ignored in type descriptions, because despite their need for gaining influence, I can break these types in half over my knee. But I digress. ENTJs often get typed as characters that fit EIE and SLE far better in practice, which is a shame. There is a lot things that LIEs can offer, and it has nothing to do with their resources. I think a big aspect to them is their need and desire for a moral compass. Not to tell them what the most effecient thing is to do, but what the right thing is to do in a complicated situation.
MBTI descriptions paint a portrait of these types being super domineering, power-hungry, etc. Not really the case. These types are often quite nerdy. Ambitiously nerdy, but still. I have not really met any in my day-to-day experiences (according to Aushra, they are exceptionally uncommon), so I can't really point to any personal experiences. I have an expectation that maybe I would not like these types at first, but as time goes on, I can sort of match their vibe.
Type Breakdown
Te-Ni Ego Block
(Te-Ni) - (Se-Fi) - (Ti-Ne) - (Si-Fe)
The Ego Block is the aspect of the personality you are the most confident in, and is what you offer to the world. It's the main dish of the course, and it's your signature. As such, the ego block is made up of the Base/Leading the Creative functions. The base function is your entire worldview; everything stems from it. The creative function is the sword to your kit, which you can use in any given situation. It's flexible, and importantly, can be turned on and off (which makes it more subtle in usage than the base function), as it's not "on" 24/7.
For the LIE (ENTJ), the base and creative functions are Te and Ni.
In contrast to most MBTI stereotypes, which depict the LIE as some mastermind, the LIE is... a bit of a dork in reality. To be more specific, these types are the ones who try to "min-max" their daily lives in order to get to a desired future outcome more efficiently. To accomplish this, the LIE will gather as much factual information as possible, usually from a position of leadership where they can get a bird's eye view on all the processes occurring around him/her. These types want to be in charge, not necessarily because they are after power above all things, but they feel secure in knowing everything that is going on.
To accomplish this goal, the LIE will look towards patterns in the past, assess the cause-and-effect of these patterns, and gauge a positive future trajectory. These types will have many projects that they hope will be a guaranteed positive outcome. These types are fast-workers, and care about accomplishing tasks in as quick a time frame as possible, and they know precisely how to do it. These are business types, not necessarily "conquest-focused" types. They want things to be pragmatic, and to be profitable, long-term investments.
A good example of this mindset is Russell "Stringer" Bell from The Wire. Whereas almost all the other gangbangers are focused on territory and the acquisition of resources over the competition, Stringer is focused on the long-term, and believes that having the best product, and investing in that product, will incentivize the competition to work collaboratively with him. This will decrease the amount of shootings and casualties on the streets, which will lead to fewer arrests of their crew by the Baltimore Police. More profit for everyone, with not nearly as much risk long-term. Therefore, this endeavour is the better long-term investment.
Fe-Si Superego
(Te-Ni) - (Se-Fi) - (Ti-Ne) - (Si-Fe)
For the LIE, the role and POLR elements are Fe and Si.
The LIE is well-aware that bluntly explaining processes to people is no way to motivate them, so they'll seek to balance out their directives through positive emotionality. These types will appear cheery, excited, and will appear enthusiastic as long as this "mask" serves their objectives and goals. This is how Fe role works. It is enough to get the job done, but it can come across, at times, synthetic. These types value interpersonal sentimentality, but often have an easier time projecting an "upbeat" persona over opening up their feelings. Usually this occurs when they need to engage with the public, and to make people motivated for their new projects.
The biggest issue the LIE is going to face is overworking themselves, as they do not value the day-to-day necessities of life, or routines that keep them healthy and well-functioning. These aren't going to be the types to do the laundry, go for an evening walk to de-stress, grocery shopping, clean their environment, etc. This is because they feel that their time is better spent elsewhere, and if anything, they would rather hire people to do the work for them, so they can work on projects. This of course, can be a problem. The human body has a way of keeping score of potential issues, even if the individual does not recognize their severity. If you don't get proper rest, the body is going to start shutting down, and the LIEs work quality is going to suffer as a result. So that means someone usually needs to duct tape them to a wall, to force them to rest.
(Te-Ni) - (Se-Fi) - (Ti-Ne) - (Si-Fe)
The Suggestive function is known the "inferior" function in MBTI, and is an aspect that the individual sucks at, needs lots of help and guidance with, but they are open to (and love people who can provide) feedback in this area.
For the LIE, the suggestive and mobilizing elements are Fi and Se.
The LIE (ENTJ) is going to have a lot of trouble discerning their personal sentiments; likes and dislikes. This includes what they "feel" deep down is right and wrong, and often need lots of help in this area. These are types that often want to be morally virtuous people. In addition, these types also have difficulty assessing the sentiments of others, and can't discern the feelings people have for them. They want people who follow their own feeling-judgments, and know for certain what the "right thing to do" is for any given situation. That way, if the LIE is questioning their own decisions and ethics, another person can reliably guide them in the right path. This is one of the reasons why the LIE dualizes with the ESI, who follows their own value judgments in order to make the best out of bad situations, even in a sea of morally gray options. The LIE wants someone who can understand their sentiments, without them having to vocalize them.
One of the best examples of Fi suggestive is Erwin Smith, during the Battle for Shiganshina in Attack on Titan. In the past couple of arcs, a Erwin has been behaving increasingly selfishly, putting his own curiosity and desires ahead of those of the people who have (and are going to) sacrifice their lives. When the battle is going poorly, and victory is unlikely, Erwin is faced with a dilemma of running to the basement to uncover the secrets of his father's murder, or to die with his men, preserving the survival of humanity. Erwin knows what the right call is, but is unable to motivate himself to make that choice.
This is where his best friend understands what Erwin seeks, without Erwin having to state it out loud himself. He wants Levi to send him to die. His friend understands this, and takes the burden off his shoulders. He gets the encouragement to make the right decision, to sacrifice his life and become an adult that is worthy of lives that have been sacrificed.
Se mobilizing makes it so the LIE wants to become someone who is more physically capable, and someone who is constantly chasing after more power, status, and resources. At times, this can come across as a little much. In my opinion, Se mobilizing is the "sigma male grindset" element, and the need to gain more is what motivates these types to action. If you ever see those Youtube videos, that always have a voiceover with a grizzled old man, a picture of a lion, and text that says "The Lion does not concern himself with the barking dog." That is basically Se mobilizing in a nutshell. This is different compared to LSEs, who are actually very capable in volitional pressure, and feel no need to draw attention to it (because they don't see it as particularly inteersting or valuable).
This is hilarious to me, and it is one of the biggest things that distinguishes *true* LIEs from MBTI stereotypes that depict them as these tough sigma masterminds. These types desperately want to be seen as physically tough and capable, but often fall short on it (or it only comes out in bold bursts), and it sort of makes them look like dorks. So while these types can eventually become capable in the sphere of Se, their need to "flex" and convince themselves that they are tough can come across as a little cringe at the best of times.
Ti-Ne Id Block
(Te-Ni) - (Se-Fi) - (Ti-Ne) - (Si-Fe)
The Ignoring function is pretty self-explanatory. It's potent, effective, and it can be used when you need to. But you would much rather spend your time and energy engaging with your ego block, so this is only used as "back-up" when the scenario calls for it. This element is effective and you're good at it, but it's not all that interesting to engage with.
For the LIE, the ignoring and demonstrative elements are Ti and Ne.
This means that LIEs, while they understand logical frameworks, ideologies, and structures fairly well, they see these pursuits as largely unproductive. LIEs are results oriented people, and not are all that focused on logical consistency. So these aren't going to be types to endlessly discuss theories and the theoretical applications of said theories. They want to get to the end, extract the facts from it, and then use them in productive ways. They are going to find long-winded tangents about structures to be boring, and frankly impractical.
Secondly, the LIE is going to be very skilled in assessing and analyzing possibilies. But it is always going to be related to projects, or spheres the LIE is concerned with, rather than just going off brainstorming about "what-ifs" that aren't useful for his/her goals. This might end up getting them mistyped as Ne base (specifically ILE) if the person is not careful. A key distinction is that the LIE will always use their Ne to brainstorm ideas related to future-focused endeavours, and won't just indulge in it for its own sake.
How to Spot an LIE (ENTJ) in Real Life
- These types are going to be highly active/ entreprenurial. Always attempting to find ways to maximze their productivity to achieve long-term goals. They're always going to have projects on the go, work that needs to be completed, and deadlines that need to be fufilled. Not in touch with daily life.
- Can come across as enthusiastic, energetic, and positive when addressing people, or advocating for their latest passion projects and ideas. But will not be able to keep the facade going for very long, or they might find it extremely tiring. Despite this, they often find this to be an easier alternative than being intimate, even though they value relationships that focus on sentiments, rather than external emotionality.
- Will have a very difficult time convicing themselves to rest. Will be prone to collapsing from the sheer work load if someone (preferably an ESI) is not willing to knock them out so they get some sleep.
- Greatly value people who can read and empathize with their feelings, without having them need to be said out loud. Value those who trust their judgements, and their ability to try to do the "right thing" no matter what. Find Fi dominants particularly reliable in this area.
- Going to likely subscribe to the "sigma male grindset" mentality. Hopefully someone can shame this individual out of it before it gets too cringe.
- Can understand logical/philosophical strictures, but finds them uninteresting and pointless.
- Can brainstorm ideas and be very open-minded, but their exploration is going to typically be related to their goals, objectives, and ventures.
